My dear friend Ashley has told me numerous times, “Jenny, make sure you breath deeply, especially when exercising.” She recently turned 40, but is in better shape than most women in their 20’s, so I listen to her when she gives me any advice on health.
I have been dealing with some dizziness recently, so I began to pray about it. One of the things I realized is that I can get so uptight and stressed over the stupidest things. When I begin to tense up, I tend to have shallow breathing or sometimes I even hold my breath unknowingly.
If you are a mother, you can relate to this. You are in the kitchen making your family breakfast. The kids come in running and screaming to speak to ‘mom the judge’. “Mom, he took that and I had it first!” As you turn to settle the matter, the cat jumps up on the counter so you squirt her with a water bottle while delivering your verdict to the kids. Meanwhile the dog starts barking, then the phone and doorbell ring simultaneously. For good measure, I will throw in that your youngest just spilled milk all over the floor. Yep, is it any wonder why a mom might have some tension and shallow breathing issues?
Obviously our bodies need oxygen to live. I am convinced that the art of breathing and the act of breathing are two different things. When I make a conscious effort to breath deeply, I feel energized and more alert. It also has had a positive affect on the dizziness I have been facing.
Here are some of the medically proven benefits of breathing: increased energy, reduced stress, release of endorphins, improved blood circulation to cells throughout the body, elimination of waste, increased focus and clarity of mind, reduced swelling of the body, healthier skin.
Wow! All of those health benefits and it doesn’t even cost a dime! I am so glad air is free.
Let’s see what the Word of God says about breathing…
Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones, ‘Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life.’ Ezekiel 37:5
In His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind. (Job 12:10 AMP)
By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, and all their host by the breath of His mouth. (Psalm 33:6 AMP)
For how can my lord’s servant [who is so feeble] talk with this my lord? For now no strength remains in me, nor is there any breath left in me. (Daniel 10:17 AMP)
Now I challenge you! Just breathe:)
