I was given this recipe from my dear friend Eileen. It is a staple in our house now and my kids love it! It is super easy to make and healthy!
1 – 16oz pkg. driend green split peas (not soaked)
1 meaty hamebone, 2 ham hocks, or 2 cups diced ham
3 carrots, diced
½ c chopped onion
2 ribs celery, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 bay leaf
¼ cup fresh parsley or 2 tsp dried
1-1/2 tsp seasoned salt
½ tsp pepper
6 cups broth (they call for water in the recipe)
Layer ingredients in a slow cooker in the order given; pour in broth/water. Do not sir ingredients. Cover and cook on high 4-5 hours or on low 8-10 hours until peas are very soft and ham falls off the bone. Remove bones and bay leaf. Mash peas to thicken.
